About the role

The Vice President, Commercial Operations reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer will lead and manage the commercial operations functions including Forecasting & Budgeting, Business Analytics, Pricing, Contracting, and Distribution. The position will lead a team that provides analytical and operational, and organizational effectiveness to the Commercial organization.



  • Play an integral part in preparing the US Commercial organization to become multi-product company
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Market Access and other Commercial functions to ensure alignment with Commercial and brand strategy.
  • Serve as an active member on the Commercial Leadership Team (CLT).
  • Build and develop a high performing and diverse team by attracting, selecting, developing and retaining talented individuals who share the goals and vision of the organization and the Commercial function.
  • Devise, initiate and implement strategies in increase operational efficiency.
  • Implement ongoing process improvement, resource optimization, quality management, timeliness and accuracy of all products and services from all functional areas that support the Commercial organization.
  • Work collaboratively with the Information Technology organization to ensure the development of commercial data strategies and systems that will allow the company to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of the commercial organization.
  • Participate and provide commercial input and expertise for the evaluation of business development opportunities as needed.

Forecasting & Budgeting

  • Analyze market data and trends to provide detailed recommendations in support of market maximization efforts and potential.
  • Partner with Finance and Commercial functions to oversee budget process and medium to long term sales forecasting.
  • Oversee and guide the development of long and short-term sales forecasts and updates.

Business Analytics

  • Lead and evolve the Commercial Operations function including maintaining the analytic and operational infrastructure for supporting the U. S. Commercial organization.
  • Oversee creation of business analytic presentation to Executive Leadership, Board of Director, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee the development of insights and trends through data analytics and market research to contribute to Commercial leaderships strategic direction.

Pricing, Contracting and Distribution

  • Manage pricing governance including pricing analytics, decisions, and government pricing reporting.
  • Responsible for measuring potential ROI for contracts and gaining approval from Pricing Review Committee (PRC).
  • Maximize value of trade and distribution partnerships. Ensure contract language aligns with organizational goals and approvals.
  • Oversee execution of contract negotiations.
  • Lead team responsible for processing contract utilization submissions and overseeing rebate process and payments.
  • Oversees contract analytics and processing for payers, specialty pharmacies, and specialty distributors.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Market Access to oversee gross to net calculations.
  • Oversee process and analytics for patient out of pocket programs including PAP, Copay, etc.
  • Ensures smooth operations of specialty pharmacy distribution system.
  • Lead patient access operations including HUB.
  • Ensure appropriate levels of supply chain by collaborating with GW Manufacturing, importing packaging and 3PL vendors.
  • Manage relationships and agreements with wholesalers in US distribution chain.

Required Experience:

  • BA or BS degree (MBA or advanced degree a plus)
  • 15+ years of experience leading a commercial operations function within a pharmaceutical or biotech company.
  • Demonstrated mastery of analytical responsibilities.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of commercial operations and analytical functions within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Neurology environment a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence and align at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be effective working in a team environment with strong collaboration skills to gain alignment within an organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and management multiple functions.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced and challenging environment with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in sales force strategy and optimization projects.
  • Strong leadership, team building and organizational skills. Proven ability to coach and develop staff as well as technical ability tocoordinate functional business activities.
