Responsibilities

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Responsible for negotiating and purchasing materials with a large degree of autonomy. Demonstrates more advanced negotiating skills sufficient to evaluate vendor quotes and services at a high level. May mentor more junior-level buyer associates or support staff. Familiar with a variety of purchasing concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on previous experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals to perform a variety of tasks. Works under minimal supervision.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: (Examples of work performed responsibilities listed do not necessarily apply to all positions in this job title).

Responsible for materials road map element(s)
Authorizes payment of invoices or return of merchandise
Purchases components and services related to the manufacture of finished product, maintenance, repair and operations
Responsible for leading RCI initiatives
Leads individual-level training of new buyers on best practices and procedures
Coordinates portions of the physical inventory process
Negotiates prices, discount terms and transportation arrangements for merchandise
Makes transportation arrangements for merchandise and ensures compliance with corporate transportation guidelines
Works independently with suppliers on-site
Exercises independent ---judgment and has approval authority for freight charges, fee arrangements, etc.
Expedites materials across multiple orgs
Examines, selects, orders, and purchases merchandise at the most optimal price consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other factors
Interviews and works closely with vendors to obtain desired products
Researches and resolves receipt discrepancies
Manages part deliveries and reschedules/cancels incoming shipments to meet production demand
Coordinates with suppliers to obtain desired products
Maintains system data integrity
Oversees records keeping efforts
All other duties as assigned
Typically responsible for the consistent supply of purchased goods and services required to support a manufacturing facility.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
High School Degree or equivalent required.
Four-Year Bachelor degree OR APICS or NAPM certification required
Three years of applicable Altec experience OR four years of directly applicable external experience required
Microsoft Office suite experience required.
APICS or NAPM certification preferred
APS levels 1 & 2 completed (or equivalent outside training) preferred and be able to successfully facilitate and lead VSM and RCI initiatives
Knowledge of supply chain principles and concepts preferred
Prior Oracle experience preferred
OTHER POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:
Some travel (up to 25%) may be required.
Must be customer service oriented
Must be able to maintain company confidentiality
Should be able to handle stress and deadlines well
Must be willing to participate in Continuous Improvement Initiatives
