Job Description

Hancock Forest Management, Inc. (HFM), is seeking a qualified candidate to w ork in a team environment to collectively manage all operational timberland projects and programs of the 152,000 acres of the North Cascades Region, including stewardship of people and the environment; outreach and education; and silviculture, harvest, transportation, and land management operations.

Hancock Forest Management, Inc. (HFM) and Hancock Farmland Services, Inc. (HFS) are wholly owned subsidiaries of Hancock Natural Resource Group (HNRG) . HFM and HFS are property management companies that serve global institutional investors through related-party investment management groups (Hancock Timber Resource Group and Hancock Agricultural Investment Group) and third-party private investors. HFM oversees the timber development and harvesting operations for approximately 3.8million acres of timberland across the USA and Canada. HFS oversees the agricultural assets and operations for approximately 0.3 million acres of farmland throughout the USA. Collectively, HFM and HFS represent the North American property management platform of HNRG.

HNRG is based in Boston, Massachusetts and is comprised of two core businesses; Hancock Timber Resource Group (HTRG) which develops and manages timberland investments and Hancock Agricultural Investment Group (HAIG) which develops and manages farmland investments. HNRG develops and manages diversified agricultural and timberland portfolios for a global client base. As of March 31, 2019, assets under management totaled $13.8 billion of timberland and farmland, compromising over 6.0 million acres located in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Chile. HNRG is committed to socially responsible investing and sustainable management of its clients assets, including the ongoing reduction of environmental impact, and improvement of sustainability and stewardship performance.


  • Develop and maintain a productive and positive relationship with the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe.
  • Participate and lead programs and projects to ensure the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe initiatives and objectives are achieved, including the integration of forestry education for K-12, job and professional training and employment, community enrichment, and numerous special projects.
  • Plan and implement harvest related activities. Including harvest unit design, boundary delineation, environmental compliance, harvest system selection, permitting, contracting, and contract administration.
  • Ensure client fiduciary obligations are achieved.
  • Maintain a safe working environment; enthusiastically and proactively promote safety among HFM teams, contractors, recreation users and visitors.
  • Plan and implement road construction and maintenance.
  • Plan and secure non-timber revenue sources for client properties such as hunting &/ recreation, land sales, surface use, and other opportunistic revenue sources.
  • Provide inputs into long and short term forest management plans, including quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, long term plans, and comprehensive management plans. Support and conduct quarterly reporting.
  • Service the continuous information and communication needs of multiple teams based in multiple regions.
  • Update forest GIS systems and other data systems as scheduled.
  • Implement forest certification procedures and support and participate in audits.
  • Maintain positive and proactive stakeholder relationships in the operating area.
  • Ensure compliance with Manulife, Hancock Natural Resource Group, and HFM policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, concerned stake holders, HFM staff, and HTRG staff
  • Other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.


  • BS in Forest Management or related field such as Forest Engineering.
  • Preferred 5 years forest management and forest operations experience.
  • Proven team player, with the ability to understand and work with a variety of personalities.
  • Excellent relationship, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in use of personal computers and related software.
  • Knowledgeable in GIS and ArcMap.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Client service oriented.
  • Strong desire to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledgeable of timberland accounting, land records, and forest management.
  • Knowledgeable in safety management.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial.
  • In depth working knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Proven history of performance.
  • Current Pesticide License or the ability to obtain.
  • Knowledge of forest practices.
  • Current driver's license.
