Michael Baker International's Water Resources Practice provides innovative consulting, planning and engineering solutions for the entire spectrum of the water cycle. We have proven experience in providing a full range of professional services from scientific and technical analysis, concept through design, and construction support services. Protection and management of water resources starts at the watershed level and follows the movement of water through urban and agricultural areas, streams, lakes and reservoirs, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants.


The Project Manager - Water/Wastewater will support local and regional clients and projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for the day to day management and delivery of existing projects; and for the development of business with Water and Wastewater customers in the Southern California market. We are looking for a highly-motivated self-starter, who is versatile and interested in working on a variety of project supporting our Water/Wastewater Team. Following is a summary of the responsibilities and expectations associated with this position:

  • Lead project teams that are responsible for planning, design development, preparation of construction documents, and construction support for water and wastewater infrastructure facilities, including water and sewer pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, wells, lift stations and treatment facilities.

  • Perform project management duties, such as establishing project work plans, invoicing, project budgeting and forecasting and monthly reports.

  • Technical and administrative management of deliverables, scopes of work, schedules, staffing, subcontractor management

  • Quality control and quality assurance of deliverables

  • Interact with Client and be responsible for positioning on upcoming projects with clients throughout Southern California

  • Actively participate in business development activities, such as client development, networking groups, proposal preparation, pursuit strategy, fee proposal development and contract (scope and fee) negotiations.

  • Staff supervision (1 to 5 staff directly reporting)

  • Actively participate in industry organizations such as ASCE, AWWA among others.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to other staff members.

  • Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to water and wastewater systems.

  • Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.

  • Assist technical marketing during the procurement of key projects.

  • Communicate effectively and coordinate with project team members including other disciplines (surveying, environmental, and other engineers) and subconsultants


  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution

  • Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in California

  • Minimum of 7 years of related experience in planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure, design, and project management for water resources (including water/wastewater, stormwater quality, and surface drainage) engineering with increasing levels of job responsibilities and client interactions

  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, MS Project), project financial reporting

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and MicroStation is desirable.
