  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Reports to the Practice Manager. The Perinatal Sonographer I utilizes high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the assessment of fetal anatomy, fetal growth, and fetal well-being. Performs ultrasound scans and procedures requiring independent judgment and a high degree of precision and skill in the application of ultrasound equipment. Follows protocols and procedures as directed by the Medical Director and/or Perinatal Sonographer Educator. Ensures quality patient care is provided. Performs research functions in order to collaborate with physicians.

  • JOB SPECIFICATIONS
    • Education and Experience
      • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through graduation from high school or equivalent. A graduate from a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, which meets the requirements by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) with an active OB/GYN RDMS certification, FMF 1st Trimester screening certification and Clear certification is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Two to three years of advanced ultrasound technologist experience is required. Preference will be given to a candidate with ultrasound technologist experience working with obstetric/high risk patients.
    • Knowledge & Skills
      • Demonstrates proficiency in Amniocentesis, Amnioreduction and Amnio Dye Study procedures.
      • Knows and can demonstrate the common markers of fetal aneuploidy.
      • Must be able to performs Umbilical, Middle Cerebral Artery, and Ductus Venosus Doppler assessment when indicated.
      • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical, and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit of department.
      • Proficient in the diagnostic ultrasound procedures as outlined in practice protocol.
      • Communicates to patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure.
      • Must be able to assist physicians with amniocentesis procedures with and without the use of a needle guide.
      • Understands correct procedures and coding for obstetrical ultrasound.
      • Requires basic knowledge of fetal echo-cardiology and general knowledge of various maternal conditions, i.e, chronic hypertension, diabetes, etc.
      • Demonstrates analytical skills necessary to evaluate information and records utilizing measurable and verifiable criteria to meet standards.
      • Demonstrates high level of communication skills necessary to exchange information with families and/or other parties to ensure proper positioning of patients with the least amount of discomfort
      • Requires the ability to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiographic and medical terms.
      • Requires basic computer skills to utilize ultrasound reporting software, image storage, and practice EMR.
      • Requires the manual dexterity necessary to adjust machine controls or change, attach or adjust devices or accessories.
      • Requires ability to utilize highly specialized instruments and probes to perform accurate measurements, perhaps involving multiple gestation.
      • Requires well developed interpersonal skills necessary to communicate in a tactful, sincere and professional manner with patients/families, physicians, visitors, and others.
      • Must be available to participate in an on-call weekend rotation with other Perinatal I & II Sonographers, as per practice requirements.

      • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
