Program Quick Facts:
The position will be located at our Houston Texas Service Center
Term: 10 weeks during the Summer of 2020

Rotation: We offer interns an opportunity to rotate through different roles in the Service Center to ensure they learn all the key roles, processes and procedures before beginning on their assigned project (spend time on the shop floor, with our shipping department, on the road with one of our drivers, with inside and outside sales, etc.)

Industrial Distribution Internship Lean Manufacturing (Summer 10 weeks)



As part of the team in our Houston Service Center, the Lean Manufacturing Intern will work with our Continuous Improvement Manager to identify and implement lean manufacturing goals and strategies that will improve the operations and processes within our branch.

This Internship offers the opportunity to learn lean methodologies, project management, standardization of manufacturing processes, troubleshooting, time management, and problem solving skills.





RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Work closely with the Continuous Improvement Manager and operations teams to develop efficient manufacturing procedures, implement continuous improvement processes and improve manufacturing operations.

  • Assist with implementation of lean manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement and branch projects.

  • Participate in lean Kaizen process improvement events on manufacturing equipment.

  • Assist with plant layout assessments to maximize flow.

  • Conduct and document time studies and capacity analysis of various operations within the branch.

  • Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies and suggest alternative solutions as they relate to cost, quality and production requirements.

  • Create process flow maps and new job structure roles.

  • Successfully complete specific assigned process improvement tasks throughout internship.



QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Currently working towards a bachelors degree in Industrial Distribution with a graduation date between December 2020 and June 2022

  • Proficiency using business/technical software like MS Office.

  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment with minimal oversight.

  • Ability to manage small projects from start to completion.

  • Preferred familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles.

  • Ability to interact with a variety of people in a positive and professional manner.

  • Must be punctual, reliable and willing to work various shifts as required.

  • Previous manufacturing/production experience is a plus.
