Position Summary

Reporting to the President Clinical Healthcare, Brian Kelly, the General Manager will lead Ascends Continuing Education Retail Markets. The business unit comprised of industry leading BoardVitals and NursingCE.com brands has consistent strong double digit growth.

The General Manager will be responsible for increasing revenue and margin, strategic planning and go to market execution in our continuing education (CE) B2C channels. This includes continuing to drive double digit growth and increasing market share through a combination of organic initiatives and M&A. The successful candidate will have clearly established credentials and proven ability to thrive in operational complex environment, build teams to scale a business, and optimize business systems. This role leads a team of 40 employees with deep industry expertise in sales, marketing and product functions while working with Ascend-level support groups including IT, finance, operations, human resources and legal.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, drive and achieve market and financial objectives including revenue generation, profitability realization, market penetration and market share goal attainment for the business unit.

  • Deliver data-driven insights to support business direction and results.

  • Develop and implement winning competitive strategies and commercialization of the BoardVitals and NursingCE.com brands as well as any and all Ascend CH products that can be marketed in a retail or B2C channel to fully realize their potential in the market.

  • Create and implement strategic and tactical plans for growing the contribution of the group. Define success including results metrics and Key Performance Indicators.

  • Serve as the key brand ambassador and champion of the mission driven organization.

  • Develop and execute talent strategies to enhance capabilities in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction

  • As a key senior leader, work with the President and other General Managers and senior leadership across the business to align the strategy with the other business units to achieve Clinical Health goals.

  • Lead a team of highly skilled experts across the commercialization engine including marketing, sales and product management and innovation.

  • Support and adhere to Ascend Learning design principles including brand standards, quality and client experience expectations. Also adhere to the compliance requirements associated with maintaining content, and certification delivery consistent with local, state and federally mandated requirements. Maintain close relationships with the accrediting bodies for all these careers.

Professional Experience and Qualifications:

Profit & Loss (P&L) of Complex Business: Proven track record owning a complex, multi-line business or multi-product P&L as a President, General Manager or Chief Operating Officer of a $20 million revenue business. Prior foundational experience as a leader of sales and marketing/go-to-market organizations is preferred.

Healthcare Industry: Experience working within the healthcare markets and preferably leading a technology solution or digital delivery of products of services. Experience in Physician Education is strongly desired.

Go to Market (GTM) & Growth: Proven track record of executing a robust multi-channel B2C growth strategy, driving revenue and successful scaling a business. leading a vision and strategy that directly and positively impacted growth and revenue. Has led the go-to-market previously which includes sales, marketing, new product/solution launches, geographic expansion, marketing adjacencies, and acquisitions.

Product Innovation: Successfully developed and launched new products driving a strategic product roadmap. Is high attuned to the rapidly changing technology environments around learning, assessment and simulation. Experience working within healthcare education markets and driving innovative products to provide client solutions.

Stakeholder Presence: Executive presence and ability to represent brands internally and with customers, and government regulators to influence new regulations. Ability to present in the board room as well as converse with the front line.

Graduate Degree: A Masters degree preferred.

The selected candidate will receive an attractive compensation package, which will be commensurate with experience, and will include a base salary, annual target cash bonus, and equity stake.
