Develops and implements comprehensive academic assistance programs specifically designed to address the educational needs of medical students.
  • Develops individualized learning profiles for all incoming students.
  • Develops educational development plans for at-risk students.
  • Coordinates with internal and external partners to design comprehensive learning support systems to include support for students seeking accommodations.
  • Reviews background information and current academic performance of referred student and determines if specialized assistance is needed.
  • Reviews and discusses recommendations with students and monitors their progress in the academic program.
  • Facilitates wellness activities for all medical students.
  • Trains and hires Peer tutors.
  • Works with students to enhance their test taking and study skills.
  • Develops and implements learning workshops and activities.
  • Develops a pre-matriculation program for students underrepresented in medicine to prepare them for the start of the medical school curriculum and ongoing success.
  • Communicates with Learning Community Mentors and faculty as appropriate to assist students in their educational preparation.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    This position will direct the day to day operations related to Academic Support for the new University of Houston College of Medicine. This position provides support to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Admissions and Outreach in the daily operation for the office of academic support .

    Doctoral degree and 7 years experience

    Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed.Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.
